Artist’s Comments

San Francisco was my home for 25 years,  and as a landscape painter, I liked the challenge of integrating my passion for nature and for urban landscapes.  Golden Gate Park is one of my favorite places to paint in San Francisco, and the Arboretum is a stunning example of Victorian architecture in this first class setting.  I must admit that I was intimidated by the complex, ornate details of this beautiful building.  But, I was also highly motivated to capture this historic structure on canvas because there were rumors of plans to demolish the building because of major damage from a storm.  Soon after I finished  this painting, the city rallied and requests for funds to “Save the Arboretum” brought in enough money to restore the old Victorian “green house”  almost to it’s original condition.
