Every year on December 25th, Baumann visits the National Parks to paint an annual scene of nature at its best. These Christmas paintings have been highly sought after by collectors and are limited in numbers. These paintings may also appear in other Baumann Portfolios, but they are a separate collection in themselves. Every Baumann painting is unique and these Christmas paintings are inspired, and created on location, on a very special day of the year.
Every so often I take off and spend the holidays doing what I enjoy most, and that is painting on location. Not just to recreate the icons, but what that day feels like. Outside of the religious holiday, Christmas feels different than any other holiday, and Christmas paintings should convey both the uniqueness of the time of year and the emotional atmosphere. The light is low as we are near the shortest day of the year. The pace is slow and the conversion of the cold air and the smoke from fires that people enjoy while they spend the day with their families create a feeling that the earth is healed and the future is hopeful, so I paint with these thoughts on my mind.
