Artist’s Comments
When I travel, I often use a thumb box. This small prochade box is one of my favorite painting boxes because I can set up in a moment’s notice and then, close my box and move on to the next place that inspires me. This is an example of a “etude” sketch of a Snow Flower. I have seen these plants breaking through the last snow banks in the spring in Lake Tahoe where I grew up. When I saw them in Yosemite one day, I was reminded of my childhood. These candle-shaped, bright scarlet flowers always make me smile when I see them in the woods.
