Introduction
We’ll start at five PM with an introduction and an overview of the weekend. You’ll learn how to build a strong composition, an easy way to get your drawing down, a simple approach to applying paint, and an introduction to color temperature. We’ll also cover how to best prepare yourself for the days ahead.
Day 1
Day one begins at seven AM with a discussion on creating a strong central focal point. We’ll also explore checkering — a technique that adds drama and makes your paintings pop. After that, we’ll dive into temperature and lighting effects, followed by a morning critique of today’s paintings, then head out on location to put everything into practice.
Day 2
Day two begins at seven AM with a critique of yesterday’s paintings. We’ll have a longer discussion on establishing temperature and the use of transitions, along with lighting effects, composition, eye magnets, and sight sizing. Then we’ll head back outdoors to paint. If time allows, we’ll finish with a night painting session.
Day 3
Day begins at 7 AM
We’ll close the day 3 day of the workshop by learning a fresh way of looking at your painting—one that helps you get everything in the right order, placement, and sense of place.
We’ll also cover additional keys from the Baumann Book we haven’t discussed yet, followed by a critique of the day’s work.
We’ll finish with a full recap of the weekend. If you still have unanswered questions or want to work through anything, this is your final opportunity to ask and refine before the workshop ends.
